Welcome to my first New Music Mondays review!!
Hi everyone!
Since the website I got most of my information for new music from on Wednesdays is now defunct, I will now be posting stuff on Mondays instead of Wednesdays. So here we go with our first review!
"Pages" by White Reaper: For the first 50 or so seconds, "Pages" seems quieter than White Reaper's other material. A sweet, mellow, folk-rock strum with the same three chords that comprise the chorus of The Doors' "Light My Fire." As soon as the chorus hits, however, "Pages" starts to become a bit more of a rocker, albeit with the same breezy beat the song starts with. The song is a bittersweet exercise in nostalgia, as lead singer Tony Esposito tells the tale of a romance he once had that he has now grown to regret. By the end of the song, he is "tearing out all the pages" that he has written in his diary about his former flame.
"Sex, Drugs, Etc." by Beach Weather: "Beach Weather" is an apt name for a band that has such sweet, breezy music! The group's mellow, indie-folk-rock breakthrough song, "Sex, Drugs, Etc," has actually been around since 2016! So why has it been garnering so much attention lately? The answer would be social media giant, TikTok, which was responsible for the popularity of a few songs that I reviewed on my old website. Unlike what the song's lurid title might suggest, "Sex, Drugs, Etc." isn't really about the joy of sex or drugs, but rather about the struggle to try to be fine without such vices.
