New songs for the day after President's Day 2023

Day late, I realize, but better late than never, right? Here are three songs for this week you might wanna check out!

"All I Really Wanna Do" by Devon Gilfillian: Not to be confused with the Bob Dylan song of the same name, "All I Really Wanna Do," the latest song from neo-soul musician, Devon Gilfillian, is an interesting one, both musically and lyrically. In terms of the song's musical aspects, it maintains a lot of the vintage soul sound that Devon has cultivated over the course of his career so far, sounding like an R & B song from roughly between the early and mid 1970's, even though it isn't from that era. It's lyrically that the song is really interesting, though. The song encourages people to just be themselves when it comes to pursuing romantic relationships, and the song's creative video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFMHcsHd1hk) takes it a step further with an animated version of Devon becoming attracted to a "babe-lien" (to take a phrase that the web 'toon Homestar Runner used to describe attractive female aliens) from outer space. Devon claims he wants to be somewhere where he can be "as weird as he is" with the object of his affections. Can't get much weirder than aliens, right?!

"For Your Soul" by Josh Ritter: After 2020's folk-y "Time's Wasting" failed to gain traction on adult alt radio the way Josh's previous adult alt radio singles did, Josh has once again turned to a more rock-oriented sound while not completely abandoning his folk roots in his latest song, "For Your Soul." The result is something that sounds somewhat Tom Petty-ish with a funky wah-wah guitar and bright organ sound pulsating throughout. The lyrics of the song don't really have a lot of depth in spite of its "soul"-ful title, but it's still a decent effort of his.

"Kid" by The Revivalists: No song by The Revivalists has been a downer so far, but their latest song, "Kid," is a bit more mellow than most of their already mellow material. This song sort of tones down the soulful aspects the band usually have, though the use of harmonica in the song and its guitar solo seem to want to prove otherwise. The song is a simple but meaningful one that attempts to uplift its listeners.
