New songs for April 28th, 2025

here they are: "Coyote" by Mt. Joy:  Not to be confused for the mellow, ethereal Joni Mitchell song of the same name, Mt. Joy's "Coyote" is a more bass-heavy, blues-rock-y song than the folk-rock song it shares a name with! Mt. Joy are normally pretty folk-rock-y themselves, though they do occasionally slip into slight shades of psychedelia with tracks like "Sheep," "Evergreen," and "Lemon Tree." "Coyote" is probably the hardest-rocking Mt. Joy I've heard so far!! (Though "Evergreen" is a close second) Not sure who or what the titular animal represents in this song, but the song itself seems to be about the joy of attending rock festivals, or drug trips...or maybe both?! Never thought Mt. Joy would jump onto the rock and roll bandwagon this much, but I'm glad they have! "Deadstick" by King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard:  ...and speaking of psychedelic garage rock, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wi...

New songs for April 21st 2025

here they are: "Aerial Troubles" by Stereolab:   Stereolab have been active for over 35 years, but this marks the first time I've really gotten to hear one of their songs! Though I don't know their material too well, I did get the impression from hearing about them that they mixed the bittersweet side of 1960's pop music with more avant-garde aspects of music, and "Aerial Troubles" seems to be confirming that this is indeed what Stereolab sounds like! The Anglo-French indie outfit whisper and sing playfully over swirling synths and sprawling harpsichords that sound like they came straight out of an obscure French avant-garde romance film! If any song screams "French hipster," this is it! Not that anyone asked, of course. "Chemistry" by Gigi Perez:  Last summer, we were introduced to Gigi Perez, whose indie-folk sound seemed to contrast with her fast-spreading TikTok fame. Where her "Sailor Song" was more or less straight up...

New songs for April 7th 2025

here they are: "Catch These Fists" by Wet Leg:  One of the most uniquely catchy songs of the 2020's so far has been Wet Leg's "Chaise Longue," which combined the dry, monotone delivery of Cake with buzzing post-punk inspired guitar and bass riffs! This formula for success is replicated in Wet Leg's latest song, "Catch These Fists," though there's more apparent edginess there than there was in "Chaise Longue." The title alone of "Catch These Fists" makes it sound somewhat aggressive, and its delivery comes off as such, though not without melodic undertones and catchy hooks to balance it out.  "Get it at Home" by Saint Motel:  Saint Motel are another band who seems to have a specific formula to their success. Their upbeat disco-meets-alt-pop vibes worked twice in the mid 2010's with "My Type" and "Move." Now, into the mid 2020's, we get "Get it at Home," which also puts disc...
