New songs for April 7th 2025
here they are:
"Catch These Fists" by Wet Leg: One of the most uniquely catchy songs of the 2020's so far has been Wet Leg's "Chaise Longue," which combined the dry, monotone delivery of Cake with buzzing post-punk inspired guitar and bass riffs! This formula for success is replicated in Wet Leg's latest song, "Catch These Fists," though there's more apparent edginess there than there was in "Chaise Longue." The title alone of "Catch These Fists" makes it sound somewhat aggressive, and its delivery comes off as such, though not without melodic undertones and catchy hooks to balance it out.
"Get it at Home" by Saint Motel: Saint Motel are another band who seems to have a specific formula to their success. Their upbeat disco-meets-alt-pop vibes worked twice in the mid 2010's with "My Type" and "Move." Now, into the mid 2020's, we get "Get it at Home," which also puts disco beats and licks into an alt/indie atmosphere! Not sure what the song is about, but it's catchy, and with Saint Motel, that's all that matters!
"Ripple" by Good Neighbours: Yet another band known for catchy songs, Good Neighbours' "Ripple" tells a sad story beneath its upbeat sound! The song was inspired by a close friend of the band who was going through a difficult time in their lives. When the lead singer talks about "feeling the ripples pouring out from the stream," he probably means how he can feel "waves" of happiness from his friend when they are feeling down. If you ever need a song with a good pep talk woven into it, this is it!
"South of Here" by Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats: A mellow country-rock tune in the style of groups like The Band, "South of Here" is a song that talks about dissatisfaction with the way things currently are and wanting to move out of it. The titular phrase comes from how Nathaniel hopes that south of where he is, people he knows will "let him be." I'm not sure if he's referring to political dissatisfaction, romantic, or personal, but I hope he's able to get what he wants!
