New songs for June 2nd 2025

 here they are:


"Elderberry Wine" by Wednesday:  Not to be confused with the lively Elton John song of the same name, Wednesday's "Elderberry Wine" is a sweet, reflective country-rock song with lilting vocals. Lead singer Karly Hartzman says in the song that "even the best champagne tastes like elderberry wine." Not sure exactly what she means by this, but it sounds interesting!


"Everyday Magic" by My Morning Jacket:  After the psychedelic yet still reflective "Time Waited" from earlier this year, MMJ are back with a more free-spirited and funky song with "Everyday Magic"! The song is fun and has somewhat psychedelic imagery ("a ripple in the fabric"). It's also one of the more danceable MMJ tunes, which adds to its fun vibes!


"Inept Apollo" by Nation of Language:  Our last song is a largely synth-driven tune with an interesting title! The lyrics seem somewhat cryptic, though from what I can gather it seems to be about a relationship on the brink, with lyrics like "don't forget my love" and "you're so far away from me." I have no idea what an "inept Apollo" even is, but after listening to this song, I'd like to find out!

 Hi everyone! I'm so sorry if I left anyone behind these past three weeks! I was going through a lot and I just didn't feel up to doing new music blogs during that time. Ordinarly, SVE has a sound closer to folk-rock and indie, but in the past few years, she's gotten a bit more of a techno influence. Sharon's ethereal, cathartic nature remains in this song, though. In a time of uncertainty in the world at large, her sentiments on "Afterlife" speak volumes! The entire song centers around uncertainty, and specifically spiritual and supernatural uncertainty. New songs for September 2nd, 2024

 here they are: "Field of Vision" by King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard:  Rock and roll is not dead, it's just sleeping! There are still bands out there like King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard who keep the spirit of classic rock alive into the modern age! Sounding like an amalgam of The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and ZZ Top fused into a single song, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard's "Field of Vision" is an atypical entry into a format focused mostly on the calmer side of rock and alt, but once in a while, even soft rockers need their hard rock juice, and this song provides plenty of it! The lyrics don't seem to follow a specific narrative, and repeating the phrase "silly billy" at the end of the song doesn't exactly scream "talented songwriter," but who cares about that?! New songs for August 19th 2024

 here they are: "Baby Blue Movie" by Cigarettes After Sex:  A song like this one really emphasizes the "sex" part of "Cigarettes After Sex"! What, you may ask, is a "baby blue movie," and what does it have to do with sex? A "blue movie" is slang for...well...one of those kinds of movies. So a "baby" version would simply be a softer version, but still one where the intent is to produce lewd, lascivious, lustful, lurid longings in lads and ladies. The sweet, buoyant music goes right along with that theme...ummm...kind of. What I'd actually expect is more "wah-wah" sax-laden funk music, but I suppose something of a sweeter nature can also go along with it. CAS also make us wonder, just what is this "always4tuesdays" that Greg Gonzalez refers to in the song? As it turns out, that has varying definitions!
