New songs for the day after Memorial Day 2026
Since Monday was Memorial Day, I'm making it for it by posting about four brand new songs today instead. Here they are!
"All the Beauty" by Pete Yorn: This song is a bittersweet song from Yorn where he mixes electronic synths, indie-garage fuzz, and jangly indie-folk warmth into one song. This is one of those songs that could be about anything! According to the description for the song's official video, two ideas arise. One is about the song itself and how we should appreciate the present when it happens ("and I miss all the beauty of this place"). The other, though, is about his love of dogs! I'm not sure whether the song is actually about his dog, Rosie, but she might very well have inspired this one, especially given how often she appears in the video for this one! As for me? I love kitties! But any furry creature dear to our hearts is one worth treasuring!
"Heart Has to Work So Hard" by Blondshell: Like many of Blondshell's songs, this one gives me Garbage vibes. Melancholy, jaded, female-led electro-grunge. Sabrina Mae Teitelbaum (who is "Blondshell" herself - it's not a band) exudes boredom and subtle frustration throughout this track. The song seems to be about the exhaustion of having to keep up with a relationship that no longer suits you, which is why her "heart has to work so hard" when her partner is around. The video for the song is essentially Sabrina staring vacantly and somewhat reluctantly into the camera, dressed in a bra and a wraparound skirt. Her attire is not meant to seduce or impress here, though, as much as it seems to be about just either letting off all the weight of the world or purposely exposing her vulnerability so that people can know just how much she's had to go through.
"Yip Yip Yow" by Caroline Rose: Indie-dance-pop is what we've had so far from Caroline Rose. With the quirkily-titled "Yip Yip Yow," Caroline lets loose her inner garage blues-rocker! The song sounds like it could pass for a Black Keys tune! The subject matter of this song is as hard to figure out as its title, which reminds me of the Martians from Sesame Street since they mainly spoke by saying "yip-yip" to one another. But seriously...I can't exactly figure out what this one is about...but who cares?! It's fun!!
