New songs for September 2nd, 2024

 here they are:

"Field of Vision" by King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard:  Rock and roll is not dead, it's just sleeping! There are still bands out there like King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard who keep the spirit of classic rock alive into the modern age! Sounding like an amalgam of The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and ZZ Top fused into a single song, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard's "Field of Vision" is an atypical entry into a format focused mostly on the calmer side of rock and alt, but once in a while, even soft rockers need their hard rock juice, and this song provides plenty of it! The lyrics don't seem to follow a specific narrative, and repeating the phrase "silly billy" at the end of the song doesn't exactly scream "talented songwriter," but who cares about that?! To paraphrase Jack Black's character in School of Rock, this music will test your head, your mind, and your brain, so sit back and enjoy the magic of rock!!

"Little Chaos" by Orla Gartland:  Ireland's latest alt-rock sensation is a woman named Orla Gartland, and she's not afraid to tell us about how she feels about the stigmas against mental health that people have! In a paranoid but catchy slice of alterna-techno-pop, Gartland defiantly challenges her listeners to either take her for the beautiful mess she is or to not take her at all. She knows she's far from perfect, but she doesn't let that stop her from enjoying life, even if enjoying life means having to deal with its many hardships. We need more songs like this one!

"Violet" by Joe P:  Joe P has already had alt and adult alt radio hits with "Off My Mind" and "Don't Wanna Love U," but "Violet" marks the first time (to my knowledge, at least) that a song of his initially garnered attention from social media giant, TikTok. "Violet," in this case, does not refer to a flower or to the color, but to a girl. It might be the first straight love song in Joe P's catalog, as "Off My Mind" and "Don't Wanna Love U" both had frustrated lyrical undercurrents, but "Violet" is a more sincere love song. Genre-wise, it follows an alt/indie-pop pattern where electric and acoustic guitars mingle with more synthetic, electronic instruments, which is typical of alt/indie-pop for the 21st century.

"What's Fair" by Blondshell:  A song that combines Smashing Pumpkins-esque guitar playing with Kim Deal-ish vocals and Liz Phair-like lyrics? Smells like the '90s to me! '90s alt-rock is becoming an increasingly more common influence in today's alt/indie-pop scene, and Blondshell's "What's Fair" is a great example of this! Sabrina Mae Teitelbaum (who, herself, is Blondshell) delivers a tale filled with both sexual regret and sexually explicit lyrics in "What's Fair," with vocals filled with anguish that never quite climax to a scream. You can tell she's ticked off in her vocal delivery, but she seems to almost suppress her anger in this song.
